  4. ARTISOFT'S NEW ARTISCRIBE VOICE DICTATION SYSTEM MAKES BIG NOISE IN
  5. COMPUTER INDUSTRY

  8. (TUCSON, Ariz--May 20, 1991)--Artisoft announced today its new
  9. ArtiScribe digital dictation system that allows users to dictate and
  10. transcribe spoken messages across a network.  ArtiScribe works on
  11. Artisoft's LANtastic, Novell's NetWare, and any network operating
  12. system that runs on top of DOS.  It will be available June 1991.

  14. "The ArtiScribe Voice Dictation  System will enhance the productivity
  15. of businesses by combining the power of voice with the  connectivity
  16. of networks," said Jack Schoof, Artisoft's President and CEO.

  18. ArtiScribe allows both the recording (dictation) process and the
  19. playback (transcription) process to take place in the background, so
  20. that the foreground application is fully accessible during these
  21. functions.  The transcription process can even be controlled by voice
  22. commands, spoken into the microphone of the headset, permitting total
  23. hands free operation and uninterrupted use of the main application
  24. program (typically a word processor for creating a transcribed
  25. document).

  27. The core software of ArtiScribe is the RAM resident "control pad".
  28. The control pad can be popped up over any text mode DOS application
  29. at the press of a key, and used to record and playback voice files.
  30. When an originator dictates a piece, they can attach a description
  31. of the piece before saving it in the ArtiScribe dictation repository.
  32. Access to any given piece can be restricted to a specified user or
  33. group of users by the originator.  The control pad also provides
  34. users with the ability to see, hear, sort, and select from  the set
  35. of all voice files in the repository which are accessible to them.

  37. The ArtiScribe digital dictation system requires ArtiScribe software
  38. and the Artisoft Sounding Board adapter (formerly LANtastic Voice) at
  39. each station.  A two-station starter kit containing two Sounding
  40. Boards, one handset, one headset and ArtiScribe software is $499 for
  41. ISA bus and $699 for micro channel.  ArtiScribe Software (software
  42. only) is $149 per station.  Artisoft Sounding Board adapters include
  43. a telephone-style handset and sell for $99 each for ISA bus and $199
  44. for micro channel.  Additional headsets may be purchased separately
  45. at $99 each.
